🌬️ How to Read Windguru

1) Wind Speed (knots) — the most important row

Windguru shows wind in knots (kt).

• 12–15 kt → light but possible with big kite
• 15–20 kt → good wind
• 20–25 kt → strong and very good
• 25+ kt → powerful wind, for experienced riders

Colors help you read it fast:

• Yellow/orange → medium wind
• Red → strong
• Purple → very strong

2) Wind Direction

The arrows show where the wind is blowing to. For kitesurfing:

• Side-onshore → safest and best
• Side-shore → perfect for riding
• Offshore → dangerous, avoid unless there is rescue

3) Gusts (wind peaks)

This shows how stable the wind is.

• Gusts close to the average wind → smooth, stable wind
• Big difference (e.g. 18 kt wind, 28 kt gusts) → gusty and less comfortable

4) Waves / Swell

If you ride flat water, look for small swell (0.5–1.0 m). If you want waves, look for 1.5–2.5 m or more.

5) Swell Period (seconds)

• 8–10 sec → short, messy waves
• 10–14 sec → cleaner, nicer waves
• 14+ sec → long, powerful waves

6) Windguru Rating (the stars)

Windguru gives stars when conditions look good.

• ⭐⭐⭐ = very good
• ⭐⭐ = good
• ⭐ = okay

But don't rely only on stars — always check the wind numbers.

7) Forecast Models (GFS, WRF, ICON, etc.)

Windguru shows different models.

• WRF / ICON → more accurate for local wind
• GFS → global model, good for general trends

If several models show the same wind, the forecast is more reliable.
